Wow! 2023 is off to a running start, and still so much to do before our "busy" season begins! After completing the expansion of the Bed & Breakfast in October, we needed time to recoup. The winter is just that time! Like many, Bruce and I became "snowbirds" for several years, migrating to the south during winter. But this year, we still had final details to complete on the Bed & Breakfast and new gardens to design ready for spring installation. So, with the exception of a couple of short "getaways," we decided to stay planted for the winter at Inisfree. Florida winters are pleasant and predictable - where the sun, warm weather, golfing, or fishing are everyday occurrences. But, being honest, it is also a little boring. Nevertheless, I am enjoying this hibernation period of a Michigan winter. After all, that is what the plants and animals are doing. As I sit here this morning watching the snow fall blanket the ground, I just enjoy. Being in Michigan in the winter is not only beautiful but also what I need - a time to reflect, refresh and rejuvenate. Although there is still always plenty to do, winter allows me the time to sometimes do nothing. But mostly, time to prepare for the busy season ahead. And for this time, I am very grateful. So today, I will write my blog, l will work on a few more ideas for our business, and I might do a little baking. But there again, I might not! Wherever you are - Florida, Michigan, Montana, California, or Illinois, I hope you are enjoying the winter season. Life goes by so quickly, and it is easy to not pay attention to what is right in front of you - people you love, the beauty that God sends your way, and YOURSELF! So today, make time for YOU! Others will benefit! If you are looking for a "getaway" from your winter dwelling - INISFREE "Snowbird" Bed & Breakfast remains open all Michigan winter. Whether you are just down the road, in Florida, or Timbuktu, we would love for you to visit. A glass of wine, a book, warmth by the fireplace, or a romp in the snow.  Christmas at Inisfree - 2022 What a Christmas it was… at Inisfree Estate celebrating the holidays with sons Phillip and Patrick, Phillip’s wife Kelly, and her Mom Rae. In the nick of time, the boys arrived early ahead of the blizzard predicted to kill Christmas.    But Kelly and Rae - in a hotel stuck one single day, Managed to finally make it here by Christmas Day! The week together- we planned a few things to do, But Mother Nature was in charge, so our plans changed too… It started with Zoom Bingo - Inisfree to Chicago, To help ease the absence and be together on Christmas Eve. From puzzles to cards, to sleigh rides to boot, There was time to enjoy every moment with you.   Close friends came and went, and some spent the night, Pullman Tavern was the spot for a great time and a lot of great laughs. A Murder Mystery at Inisfree Estate created quite a big ruckus, When we learned of a 5-year-old murder that had just been uncovered. The day before departure, our neighbors and friends at Wyncroft Winery, Graciously hosted a wine tasting for our Christmas finale! Oh yes, there were presents as we generally do, But Christmas, this Christmas, was especially special! Not so much about the presents - but about being together, We all know how precious each day can be. For we never know how many more Christmases there will be. There’s is no such thing as Perfect, But to me this Christmas was Perfect - the family together for a week of great fun, where we made new memories with a Cherry on Top!  Hope your holidays were blessed and the New Year brings you a life full of love, peace and kindness.

My kids had been suggesting for a while that I write a blog … but when you are in the middle of running a business, construction projects and all the many details involved, time is very limited and quite honestly - so is your energy.
What about the name? Many guests ask about the name “Inisfree” and its meaning. The farm was already named when we made the purchase. We loved the name and learned “Inisfree” was adopted from “The Quiet Man” - the 1952 movie featuring John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara. “Inisfree” was their idyllic place of refuge from the city. The name means “land between the waters” which was not only appropriate for our location but also romantic and beautiful. A perfect name for an event venue and Bed and Breakfast. |
